Heirloom Party

Emma Calls Me Mama is having an Heirloom Party! Here's what I bring to the table:

I received a lot of furniture from my grandmother after she died and it took me many years to appreciate it. I didn't have a house yet and wasn't really into decorating. Weird, right? Well, I Totally appreciate it now. I love this little console table.

I replaced the knobs on this dresser as many of them were missing. I was debating painting this to make it match the other furniture in the room, but I think the wood is pretty as is.

This is my favorite piece. My other grandmother, (who is alive and well! ) bought this for me when I was younger. It's a child size dresser that I use as a night stand. Technically, not an heirloom, but it will be when I pass it on to my kids! :)

Una problema...

Our target bed finally arrived and while it is very pretty...it's not what I expected. It has a sheen to it--not what I was going for. I wanted nubby natural fabrics and linen and a vintage look to the bedding. And with the new headboard, I'm not sure if it's possible. I did find these linens at Neiman Marcus however, that I THINK might work. I'm doing ivories and perhaps a grayish or tan shade.

Newton and I are much too hot...

to do anything. Walking is too much effort. So is breathing. I don't do 105 degrees. I don't do 95. Or 85 for that matter. 75 is pushing it. I can't even pick up all the fabulous furniture I've been finding on craigslist! So, Newton and I are just hanging out. (He's lucky he's cute..otherwise I wouldn't allow his little body to touch mine when it's this hot out. He's like a little hot pad.)

I got myself a button!

My mother would murder me for that grammar. But I have a button none the less. I don't know about you--but I'm thrilled. :)

Show Us Your Life--Wedding Dress

Over at Kelly's Korner everyone is showing their wedding dresses-so I'm joining in! I loved my dress. It was the third one I tired on. The first made me look like a linebacker. Hot, I know.
I got it for a pretty good deal during a Vera Wang trunk sale. And it's for sale! :) Anyone need a dress?? :)

For Real? For Real, Real?

A HUGE Undertaking

So the very first thing I ever painted was a chalkboard. I had plans to paint my craigslist bench--but I lucked out and my father in law did it. But now, I have committed myself to a pretty big project. I hope I am up for it because the end result could be completely awesome. You see, I found this secretary desk on craigslist. (Their photos btw.)

Their kids played tic tac toe on it!!!

It looks almost exactly like the one Eddie Ross redid!

So this is my next project. It might take me awhile. A) I need to find some free time to do it. I have to work all this weekend. And B) I've never sanded anything in my life. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Pray for me. Seriously.

Operation Pretty: My front porch Part 2

My father in law was gracious enough to paint my craigslist bench for me while I was at work. He got one layer done before it started to pour and I'm simply too lazy to give another go. I think it's fine as is. I do think our little porch needs cute sign however.....

Did I mention how much I love my new pillows?

Cause I do.
And now they have found their final resting place. My couch. :)

The Great Wall of Susan

That's what Todd's been referring to this wall as. Because he doesn't quite get it. He thinks old stuff is just that--old. And junky. I beg to differ. I think old is faaaabulous. Anyway, I'm debating whether to leave it as is or to continue up and over every nook and canny.

Here are a few of the numbers that I got at Barn House. I realized I already had a seven. Oops. However, kind of fitting that it says 787 because Todd is working on the 787 at Boeing! :)
I hung my grandfather's old pocket watch up as well.

What do you think? Should I go all out and cover every inch of that wall? Or leave it be?

Operation Pretty: Martha's Spice Rack

We received this Martha Stewart spice rack for our wedding. But I REALLY wanted this baby:
But Martha's rack grew on me. Martha's rack. Haha. Anway, I like the little jars, just not the light wood.

So, I painted it. I think I might have made it look worse. Cause the picture above doesn't look so bad to me anymore.

Oh well, this will do.
