Cause I am seriously at the end of my rope with this room. I try to shield you from your ugly. But I think it's time that you saw. This is the first room that you see when you walk in the door. And it is pure ooogly. We bought the desk before we bought the house--hence too big for the room. I was thinking of putting drapes covering the entire wall..but I don't think that will help. I can't get rid of the desk. So what do I do!? I don't want to start eating my own hair!
P.S. Don't get me started on the giant printer with all the cords. And the ugly lamps. And the rug that just doesn't fit my style. And the awful office chair. Or the styling in general. I blame this room on Todd. :)

I don't know if you are looking for some ideas, but some window treatments (panels) might help balance out the desk! Just a thought!
YOU NEED TO PRIMER YOUR LOCKERS LIGHTLY SAND THEM WITH A FINE SANDPAPER AND THEN SPRAY THEM I WOULD PUT THEM OUT IN THE RAIN TO GET SOME RUST... THAT'S JUST ME THOUGH, I LOVE RUSTTTTY PIECES.

Yup--I was thinking panels would help! :) Let's hope so!
Is that a door I see ? You could shut it for now ! :) Not much help, I know. Can you sell the desk on Craigslist and get something smaller....
You need something in the corner above the desk to draw your eyes upward. I would put curtains up higher than the window to help draw your attention upward too. Then I would sweep the curtain to the right and tie it back or something to balance out the desk. Just my thoughts. Hope it helps!!!
Can you sell on Craigslist and start over? I, also, love the idea of panels!
love the window treatment idea, how about spray painting the lamp and getting a new shade for it. Im not sure if theres enough room but could you move the desk to the side that the bookshelf is in (more towards the door though) that away it would make the room more inviting and open. If you find the right window treatments to match the rug I think the room would look more 'put together'!!
Thanks for sharing!
Good Luck,
Nicole
Does that center of the desk stick out back into the corner or does it flatten out? If it is flat you could turn the desk to be more against the wall on the left. One wing would extend toward the window and one toward the entrance. You might even try centering it on the window wall and covering the lower portion of the window with a screen or cafe rod curtain that comes up 6 or 8 inches higher than the desk.
Uuuugh, we have the same problem! I finally couldn't take the desk being in front of the window anymore, so we stashed it at my in-laws' house. Now all of our office stuff is just sprawled everywhere. We also have so much ridiculous furniture in the room that it looks like a thrift store threw up in there! I wish I was the imaginative type that could visualize a solution! Good luck!
How about just removing the top of the desk...then the room will open up and not be so dark. I just took the mirror off of my bedroom dresser because the only place it would fit in our MBRM was in front of the window...just made everything dark...so I removed the mirror and will repurpose it somewhere else. as far as the chair...it's a man thing I know...had the same dilema with my DH...but I opted to cover mine with a linen/canvas slip cover that I found at target or linen's n things...been a while so can't remember. The white fabric just made it so much softer...hope this helps, fondly, Roberta
Haha, I think we all have a room that we can blame on our husbands... I know I do :]
I do think that some window treatments would make a ton of difference though.
i HAVE THE SAME STORY.
I hate my office.
You see it when you first walk into my home.
I have a similar desk.
I want to paint the desk white-ish...
and paint the walls............
I think it will help.
For right now, keep the door shut :)
I think panels do miraculous things so absolutely I would make that change...I think the size of the chair is what makes the room look like a man cave, although if you change the chair then the desk may seem a bit more oversized - Please post photos after you decide on the change!
